Our goal is to provide invaluable pro bono estate planning legal services to the cancer community. We realize cancer patients have incredibly busy and hectic schedules. In an effort to ease their schedules and minds, we provide an opportunity for cancer patients to have estate planning documents prepared that are tailored to their specific needs.
At our one-day clinics, volunteer attorneys meet with and advise cancer patients and survivors and their caregiver on legal issues related to the preparation of estate planning documents. Our volunteers then work with cancer patients and survivors to prepare estate planning documents that meet the needs of the cancer patient. These documents include a Will, Statutory Durable Power of Attorney, Medical Power of Attorney, HIPAA Release, and a Physicians & Family Directive. After the estate planning documents are finalized, other legal professionals and community volunteers help to properly execute the documents. This includes working with the cancer patients to formally sign and notarize the documents. When cancer patient clients leave our clinic, they leave with properly prepared and properly executed documents—and one less thing to worry about during their cancer treatment.
We are local professionals who care about the cancer community. We are attorneys, paralegals, notaries, community and business leaders, and other volunteers. We are supported by the Austin Bar Association, Austin Bar Foundation, local law firms, as well as local cancer community professionals.
Unfortunately, we have restrictions that will prevent us from helping persons in certain situations. Please help us determine whether we can help you. The CANLAW Questionnaire has questions that will help us identify cancer patients and survivors who qualify for the CANLAW Clinic. By completing and submitting the CANLAW Questionnaire, you increase the chances of us being able to help. Please know spots in the clinic are limited, so please submit your completed Questionnaire as soon as possible.
